Voting in the 2023 Referendum 

On 14 October 2023, Australians will be asked to vote in a referendum to alter the Constitution.

The Australian Consulate-General Ho Chi Minh City will be an in-person voting centre and postal vote collection centre.

All eligible Australians living in or visiting Vietnam will be able to vote.

To be eligible to vote, you must be enrolled. Please ensure that your enrolment details are up to date at the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) website.

Voting will be held at the Australian Consulate-General Ho Chi Minh City from:

  • Monday to Friday, 2nd - 6th October 2023 from 10am to 3pm; and
  • Monday to Friday, 9th - 13th October 2023 from 10am to 3pm.

We will be conducting a Walk-In service, with the option for you to indicate the time you intend on attending here.

Please note: The Australian Consulate-General Ho Chi Minh City will not be open on 14 October 2023.

Australians attending must present their valid photo identification.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade collects, uses and discloses your personal information in accordance with our obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Passports Act 2005 (Cth). The Department also uses a third-party software (Eventbrite) to manage the Consulate-General’s appointment system. Your personal information will be handled by Eventbrite in accordance with their policy and by DFAT in accordance with DFAT’s Privacy Policy.

Lift renovations

There will be renovation works on the lift facilities from 7 September 2023 to 29 February 2024. We will be expecting extra foot traffic and delays, notably during peak periods, during this period. Please consider making arrangements to allow for any potential delays when arriving for your appointment

  • Public restrooms will be unavailable during this time
  • Our temporary office hours are from 10:00AM to 3:00PM Monday to Friday

  • For all visa enquiries, please submit a request using the Australian Immigration Enquiry form.
  • You can also call the Home Affairs Global Service Centre number on +61 2 6196 0196, open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm (local time).
  • The Consulate phone number is staffed by Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade employees who are unable to answer visa enquiries.

Visiting the Australian Consulate-General

Please note:

  • Airport style security screening is in place at the Australian Consulate-General.
  • As a condition of entry to the Consulate, dangerous and harmful objects are prohibited. If you carry any of the following items you will need to leave the items at the Guard's desk upon entry - you can collect your items upon leaving the Consulate
  • Dangerous items include:
    • Cigarette lighters, flammable liquids, sharp objects, etc.
